POSTPONED!! Orono Band Rehearsal - Saturday, March 14

Due to further developments and with a view toward virus prevention, our band and Colorguard directors are announcing that the Saturday March 14 bicentennial band rehearsal is cancelled. We will reschedule and will keep you posted about new rehearsal dates/venues.


Thank you for your patience during this process, and stay safe at home practicing those instruments and twirling those flags! We’ll have updates for you soon.



Greetings, band members:


Due to precautions surrounding the COVID-19 virus, the University of Maine has closed its campuses and we will not be able to use their facilities for our rehearsals as planned.


The Maine CDC has advised against indoor mass gatherings of (250+ persons), so we have had to postpone our Maine200 Bicentennial Statehood Day ceremony this weekend. We had reserved the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Ave., for the full weekend so it is available.


Thus, we are relocating the Saturday, March 14 regional rehearsal (originally slated to take place at the University of Maine- Orono) to the Augusta Armory. Same time, same schedule, 12-6 pm. (See:  )


We are expecting a fairly small group for this rehearsal, between 30-40 persons including, and thus feel that this gathering falls well below the threshold for cancellation per the current Maine CDC recommendations. We will be requiring hand washing upon arrival and at several points during the day and asking that members avoid personal contact with each other such as hand-shaking.  Band members will be spaced apart further than you are accustomed to, to give more personal space. We understand if you do not feel comfortable attending rehearsal at this time; please advise if you will not attend.


If you had RSVP’d to attend the March 28 rehearsal at University of Southern Maine- Gorham, but your plans have changed and you are now available this Saturday, please do not hesitate to join us in Augusta.


USM has not confirmed its plans regarding hosting outside events, but the March 28 rehearsal will likely be rescheduled into April if we need to find an alternate venue. We will keep you posted.


NOTICE: If you have any flu-like or cold symptoms, or are immune-compromised, please do not attend; practice your parts at home and join us for the next regional rehearsal and the  May 2 rehearsal in Auburn.


Remember to bring your copy of your music, dress comfortably, bring snacks and water, and please eat lunch before rehearsal begins.


We will keep you updated as soon as possible regarding all rehearsals going forward, and post information to our website. Thank you for your patience as we reconfigure our plans.

Below are important details for those of you who are participating in the regional rehearsal at UMaine Orono on Saturday, March 14.



For the March 14 rehearsal, all participants will convene at the Rec Center at UMaine in Orono at NOON sharp.


Participants will meet on the Mac Court in the UMaine Recreation Center, 22 Hilltop Road, for marching practice. Please note that this is a limited access facility, which means you will need to check in at the front desk with a photo ID and sign the university’s required waiver form. 


If you are under 18 and will not be accompanied by your parent or guardian on the day of the event, you will need to complete a WAIVER FORM in advance and bring it with you or email it prior to the rehearsal date! If you forget your ID, we will have a name list of participants and will confirm your identity with the application form you submitted.

Later in the day, for the sectional rehearsals, the percussion line will go to the group exercise room upstairs in the same building and the horns will go as a group to Room 100 in 1944 Hall, which is the band room. The full schedule for the day is here:


Parking is available surrounding the rec center, either next to it or below. The campus map and directions are here:  


Please eat lunch prior to rehearsal and/or bring snacks for the breaks. Water will be provided.


Band and percussion members: Please bring a copy of your part of the musical selections (as provided on the website). Percussion players will arrange instruments with instructor Jim Hager. Horn players must bring your own instrument; if you play a large marching band instrument that we need to borrow, please advise ASAP.


Colorguard members: Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Those who have their own flags should bring them. If you do not have your own flag, please advise so the instructor can provide them for this practice.
